A Remarkable Woman...

Harriet Tubman is my hero. There will never be enough said about this remarkable woman. Her life should be an inspiration to many.
She suffered abuse as a slave, deprivation and handicap. Unable to read or write she became the Moses of her people, leading over 300 black slaves to freedom. Her contribution didn't stop there, however. She lectured about the evils of slavery and taught many. She served in the Civil War as a nurse, a scout, and a spy. She founded a home for poor, sick, and needy black citizens.
The Story of Harriet Tubman, Conductor of the Underground Railroad is an excellent book. I rate it Five Stars for readability, content, historical value, character training, biography, attention to historic detail, portrayal of an American woman, and truth.
There are other books about Harriet Tubman, and one day I may read and love them all, but this book was the right book at the right time for the kids that I am presently working with. This is a book that could challenge YOU to do and be YOUR best.

Amazing story for all ages!

This is a fantastic book! I used this with my second grade students during my Black History unit in February and the students couldn't get enough of it. Harriet Tubman really is an inspiring woman who suffered so much yet found strength within herself to help countless others: from the slaves she led to freedom, to the sick, poor and needy that she selflessly served out of her own home, to the wounded soldiers that she nursed to health during the Civil War. Absolutely amazing.

I would recommend this to teachers of all ages and anyone looking for a great story about Harriet Tubman and her remarkable life.

I thought that The Story of Harriet Tubman by Kate McMullan was a really good book. It made me realize how hard she worked for her freedom and how she helped many other slaves become free. I've heard about her story but I never knew what kinds of things she went through.
It made me realize how lucky I am to be in a "free land". In all I really liked the book. The story had a lot of action in it and each chapter unraveled another adventure. Like how she knew the swamps by heart and how she was a part of the Civil War. It was a really good book and it tells you a little bit more about Harriet Tubman and her family. I would recommend this book to people who like non-fiction action and adventure.

After gazing at the Himalaya for 21 years from his village near the Shivalik foothills, Gaurav Punj figured what to do in the mountains once he started hiking in the Yosemite national park while studying at University of California, Berkeley. He completed his Masters in Engineering (Operations Research), worked for about 4 years in the big bad corporate world and after his leave count dipped to negative 50, quit and started his venture, Connect with Himalaya, in 2008. It s as good an excuse he could find for traveling to new and unexplored places in the Indian Himalaya, meet and work with genuine local organizations and do his bit to spread the word.

Simple and interesting

I haven't actually read any books on trekking or for that matter on travel so cannot say how this rates in comparison. All I can say is it kept me interested and wanting to read the next story. I am not a big stickler for writing form, structure and narrative as long as the material makes overall sense to me. From that perspective the book is well written. Definitely don't look for lyrical beauty. But the author has a good intent and manages to convey his passion for trekking in the Himalayas.

The text contains a useful appendix, providing dermatomes of the limb and trunk, cutaneous innervations of the head, and excellent illustrations of both the brachial plexus and the lumbo-sacral-coccygeal plexus. The appendix also contains a useful table listing all muscles that are presented in the text with innervations from the peripheral nerve to the mixed spinal nerve root. A Classic!

This is just a great book (witness how the few used copies are all going for higher than list). We have about 4 EMG/NCV atlas-type publications hanging around our EMG lab, but everybody reaches for the Perotto. It's been out of publication for a while, which caused many graduating residents to covet it (and some to copy it), but they just did a reprint in June so hopefully this will increase supply. The single most useful feature is the cross-sectional anatomy diagrams. I can tell at a glance how deep I need to go, and what high-value targets, so to speak, that I might hit if I miss the mark (arteries, veins, that sort of thing). Love it!

Best Guide!

This is the best EMG book in the lab. It breaks each muscle down by its root, plexus, and nerve. It describes how to find the muscle and activate it. The pictures are invaluable! If I have to test a muscle I have not done in a while, I immediately go to this book. Highly recommended if you perform EMGs.

There is no better and easier to read book regarding localization from EMG. It is not fancy and graphics are old but it is the ease of use what makes this book a gem. You can consult the localization of an unusual muscle in less than 30 seconds...
