The Triggger Point Manuals are the definitive texts on myofascial medicine. Myofascial medicine impacts every practitioner of medicine. At least half of the patients in any general practice have myofascial trigger points. This book should not be on your shelves--it should be in your hands! If doctors, nurse practitioners, dentists and physical therapists knew how this book could impact their practice and their patients' lives, the publishers would not be able to keep up with the demand for it. This book carefully explains the difference between fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome, with new findings on the nature of trigger points. The trigger points of the upper body are explained, with their referral patterns, as well as why they can occur, and what to do about them. When I received this book as a present for passing my medical masseuse exams, I thought I received a "how to fix it" book.
These books are much more for they cover anatomy, innervation, function, testing, reasons behind the pain, differential diagnosis, corrective actions all in addition to Triggerpoint Treatment.
The 2 volumes are a must have in your library for daily reference and/or study. The illustrations are a welcome aid to oneself or for explanatory purposes to clients.

A must-have for LMT's

My daughter is a licensed massage therapist and was saving to purchase this set. She found them available at Amazon.com at a very reasonable price. This set is very highly recommended by massage schools nationwide, containing no-nonsense how-to's with direct instruction. My daughter used several techniques on her patients the first week she received her manuals, and provided great relief from their pain.

I guarantee if you mention this set to any LMT, they will be very familiar with it. It's a wonderful investment and will never become outdated. That is a guarantee by both schools and LMT's!

Great for children.

My grand-daughter is only 4 years old yet from the time she's been 2 she has loved to draw. She has tried to copy just what she sees and gets frustrated when she can't. So thought I should nurish her intrest in it. And I started learning with her for fun. First I brought books for me thinking I could teach her once I learned to better draw. Ha! I can't tell you how much money I wasted and felt like a failure.Trying to learn more realism in what I was drawing. They go from this to a finished product in 10 seconds and your scratching your head going what did I miss? So, I bought several of these books for her thinking at least they had cute critters in them she'd at least have fun with them. She follows with no instruction from me at all, just from looking at the pictures of what he's doing and can't read a word of it. Her pictures don't look exactly like his but she now draws a better circle than I do and she's have a great time with it. Has not once gotten frustrated because she can't draw just what she sees, as far as she's concerned she has, she drew the first circle that's an accomplishment to her. And from his strange creatures, doesn't matter to her if she's drawing a person with 20 arms and 4 legs she's drawn something and it's beautiful to her which is what's important. So weather your 4 or 43 it's well worth every penny. :-)Christopher Hart another great teacher check out his books as well. He'll teach you to draw 20 different sets of eyes, and several poses so you don't have to draw just what he's teaching you, you can mix it all up and still come out with a great drawing. Very easy to understand and follow.

booklet, not book

While this book has much value,fun, and good content, be aware that it is a booklet of 32 pages compared to Draw Squad and Kistlers Imagination Station: Learn How to Draw in 3D. They have about 250 pages. You will get more for your money in terms of more lessons/info with the other 2 books.

fun and easy for grandchildren and grandma

Mark Kistler's books were enjoyed by my daughter and her children. We love to draw. Mark makes it fun and easy. Although I like the work of his mentor, which his first books mirrored with exactness, these later books build on instead of copy Bruce McIntyre's style. Age eight or nine on up will enjoy this book if they like to draw.

Keeping up with the Joneses: Envy in American Consumer Society, 1890-1930 examines a key transition in the meaning of envy for the American middle class. Although people certainly have experienced envy throughout history, the expansion of the consumer economy at the turn of the twentieth century dramatically reshaped the social role of the emotion. Matt looks at how different groups within the middle class—men in white-collar jobs, bourgeois women, farm families, and children—responded to the transformation in social and cultural life.

Keeping Up with the Joneses traces how attitudes about envy changed as department stores, mail-order catalogs, magazines, movies, and advertising became more prevalent, and the mass production of imitation luxury goods offered middle- and working-class individuals the opportunity to emulate upper-class life. Between 1890 and 1910 moralists sought to tame envy and emulation in order to uphold a moral economy and preserve social order. They criticized the liberal-capitalist preoccupation with personal striving and advancement and praised the virtue of contentment. They admonished the bourgeoisie to be satisfied with their circumstances and cease yearning for their neighbors' possessions. After 1910 more secular commentators gained ground, repudiating the doctrine of contentment and rejecting the notion that there were divinely ordained limits on what each class should possess. They encouraged everyone to pursue the objects of desire. Envy was no longer a sin, but a valuable economic stimulant.

The expansion of consumer economy fostered such institutions as department stores and advertising firms, but it also depended on a transformation in attitudes and emotional codes. Matt explores the ways gender, geography, and age shaped this transformation. Bridging the history of emotions and the history of consumerism, she uncovers the connection between changing social norms and the growth of the consumer economy.

Matt offers something special in this book. I read it for a history course in undergrad (if you go to UNCW and have Dr. Gordon you may read it). Its a great read though even as a non-fiction. The book tracks the birth of consumerism in the United States, which was a nascent concept in the period Matt addresses. It truly is amazing at how Americans went from satisfied and content individuals to product hungry mongers in only a couple short decades... Obviously the industrial revolution provided the platform with the goods, but nevertheless it is quite amazing to think about what this nation was before consumerism hit and became a staple in both our economy and our everyday lives. As I recall, this book may also address the advertising devlopment that directly correllated with consumerism itself.

Great read and it will enlighten you and make you think about your next frivilous purchase from Amazon and whether or not you are just "keeping up with the joneses"

A history of envy at the turn of the 19th century that documents how envy transitioned from something that was sinful (particularly among women) to something that was acceptable and even good for society. This shift was due to an Darwinism, secularism, movies, and complemented the growth of consumer culture (advertising, installment purchasing,department stores, mail order catalogs, mass circulation magazines, and movies). Matt did a wonderful job in writing a detailed and accessible work; she includes many sources in her work and images of ads from the period. Her main thesis of this transition is shown among "city women and the quest for status," "envy in the office," on the farm, and among children.

An Excellent Primer on Derivatives

It's a "Strunk & White" approach to talking about derivatives, and it works well for him. Originally a collection of 41 easy-to-read essays that first appeared on the web under the heading, "Derivatives Research Unincorporated", the book now includes 70 essays written with only a minimal amount of mathematical equations. All of the essays, says Chance, were re-edited and purged of the informal tone they sometimes took with Internet surfers when it was only an e-book. The idea of writing a derivatives book for those who prefer words to equations (or should I say, those like myself who understand words but not equations) appears to bode well for Chance. The book is a breeze to read, but quite informative. The e-book has also grown in breadth since first appearing on the web. After all, when Chance sometimes failed to add additional essays on a regular basis to the first 20 he originally penned, a spew of phone calls and emails came from a growing cult of derivatives readers on the Internet. "I was beginning to feel like the Ann Landers of derivatives," notes Chance in the preface to his new book. Ann Landers he may be, but the book is better than just some free advice. It is solid information for the right price. And I recommend it.

Don Chance knows his Derivatives!

I am just about done with my MBA, and I have to say this is must-have book for the shelf. I read it cover to cover and now I find myself going to it for quick reference. It is really comprehensive and very thorough. The language is not the usual dense "academese," and I am most thankful to have--set forth in three short essays toward the end of the book--the differences in option pricing theory. This is the best overview on option pricing I've read yet.
